Upward Bound is dedicated to identifying, recruiting, and assisting first generation, modest income students who show the academic potential, desire, and motivation to attend college. Within guidelines provided by federal legislation, the Vermont State University-Johnson Upward Bound Program is committed to enhancing students' self- image and expanding students' opportunities for a successful future. Through the development of academic and social skills, self confidence, and career and educational goals, students discover a larger world with more choices. This in turn, can increase their personal power to make wise decisions for the future.

Upward Bound provides a challenging, creative, and dynamic learning environment, which encourages students to set realistic goals and to believe in their personal potential to reach those goals. Upward Bound works with students as they identify personal strengths and apply them towards the achievement of goals. At Upward Bound, we believe that all students deserve the opportunity to reach their highest potential. We believe that this is best achieved in an environment of support, challenge, and personal responsibility. We encourage all members of the Upward Bound community to work together to provide this environment for all students.
